Full Caf From a Decaf Roaster
We built this company around decaf because most of it was bad and nobody seemed bothered by that. Getting decaf right meant sourcing better green coffee, working with named producers, and roasting in small enough batches to actually pay attention.
The same standards apply here. Same sourcing bar, same roastery in San Diego, same small batches. The only difference is that nothing was removed.
Light, medium, and dark roast, so you can stay with what you already drink or work across the range. Every coffee in this collection is available on subscription.
If you drink decaf in the evening and full caf in the morning, this is where the morning half comes from.
How Much Caffeine Is in Regular Coffee
A standard 8oz cup of drip coffee typically runs 80 to 100mg of caffeine. A single espresso shot runs roughly 60 to 75mg, though a smaller volume. Cold brew is usually higher per ounce because of the longer extraction and the ratio most recipes use.
| Type | Caffeine per 8oz |
|---|---|
| Full caf | 80 to 100mg |
| Half caf | 40 to 55mg |
| Decaf | 2 to 7mg |
These are typical industry ranges, not measured values for our specific lots. Actual caffeine content varies with origin, varietal, roast level, dose, grind, and brew method, and we do not lab test individual batches. Treat the numbers as a guide rather than a guarantee.
Does Roast Level Change the Caffeine
Barely, and probably not in the direction you expect. Dark roasts are often assumed to be stronger, but roasting burns off a small amount of caffeine, so a dark roast has marginally less by weight than a light roast from the same green coffee.
The difference is small enough that dose and brew method matter far more. How much coffee you use and how long the water is in contact with it will move the number more than roast level ever does.
Common Questions
How much caffeine is in a cup of regular coffee?
A standard 8oz cup of drip coffee typically contains 80 to 100mg of caffeine. The exact amount depends on the origin, the dose, the grind, and the brew method. Espresso is more concentrated per ounce but a single shot is smaller, landing around 60 to 75mg.
Does dark roast have more caffeine than light roast?
No. Roasting burns off a small amount of caffeine, so dark roasts have marginally less by weight than light roasts from the same green coffee. The difference is minor, and dose and brew method affect the final number far more than roast level.
Is your full caf different from your decaf?
Only in that the caffeine is still in it. Same sourcing bar, same small batch roasting in San Diego, same roast date printed on the bag.
Can I mix full caf with decaf?
Yes, and plenty of people do. Blending a bag of full caf with a bag of decaf lets you dial the caffeine to wherever you want it. If you would rather not measure, our half caf is already blended and roasted to work together.
Can I subscribe to full caf coffee?
Yes. Every coffee in this collection is available on subscription, in light, medium, or dark roast. You choose the coffees, the grind, and how often it arrives.
How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?
We roast in small batches in San Diego and ship the same week. The roast date is printed on every bag.
