Process Overview

  1. Selective harvesting of ripe cherries
  2. Sorting to remove defects
  3. Controlled anaerobic fermentation
  4. Careful drying and stabilization
  5. Sugarcane EA decaffeination

Carefully selected ripe cherries undergo controlled anaerobic fermentation, where oxygen is restricted to allow precise microbial activity. This stage develops fruit driven complexity while maintaining balance and structure.

After fermentation, the coffee is dried slowly to preserve aromatics and stabilize the profile. The coffee is then decaffeinated using the Sugarcane EA method, allowing caffeine removal while maintaining the distinctive characteristics of the Ombligon variety.

Sugarcane EA Decaf Explained

Sugarcane EA decaffeination uses ethyl acetate (EA) derived from fermented sugarcane to remove caffeine while preserving flavor compounds. Green coffee is first hydrated before being gently washed with EA, which bonds to caffeine molecules without significantly affecting sugars and aromatics.

After extraction, the coffee is steamed to remove any remaining EA and dried to stable moisture levels. This process helps preserve sweetness, body, and clarity while significantly reducing caffeine content.

Delicious! Sweet and big flavor but not too funky

Delicious! Sweet and big flavor but not too funky. Cherry and jammy. Really delicious as double brew flash brew over ice as well.

Love to hear it! Thanks, David.

Astounding

Rich, deep, layered - just like a good glass of red wine. This extracts incredibly well as V60, Chemex, or espresso, and would probably be amazing with a long French press steep too. Might be my new favorite from the Frequent boys.

Love to hear it. We appreciate you, Ryan!

Divisive, but decent.

I am a fan of funky anaerobic coffees, so it was a definite purchase when I saw this one. It's a very complex flavor, and I definitely get the dark cherry, but I can't help but picture, an almost wheat bran, bready (closest I can place is that of cheerio cereal) taste at the back of each sip. perhaps it is my method of brewing or tasting, that being of a long Iced Americano, I enjoyed the difference and the experience, but I don't think it'll win me over in the end like the red bourbon has, overall, decent, worth a try, but not a daily driver.

Hi Thaeldrim, thank you for sharing your detailed feedback! We really appreciate it.

Just wasn't for me

Just wasn't for me. Still an okay decaf, but too acidic tasting for me.

Hi Schad, thank you for sharing your feedback, and sorry to hear it didn't hit the mark. Happy to help with recommendations if you'd like ✌️

Unusual and Intriguing

These exotic roasting methods are new to me. The flavor of this coffee is very subtle and hard to describe. It didn't quite taste like any coffee I've drunk before and rather seductive. I intend to try some more of these strange decafs?

Thanks for the feedback!

They will make you think different about drinking decaf

They will make you think different about drinking decaf. I have ordered 4 and all have been great!!! A lot of roasters do decaf as an option but don’t really care about it, this company does care and you can tell in the quality of the beans.

Thanks so much for the kind words. We really appreciate it.

Wonderful Decaf Specialty, Accurate Notes on Bag

Very sweet and fruity, delicious specialty decaf coffee. I get chocolate, stone fruit, cherries, and a mild nuttiness. Mild, balanced acidity. Really wonderful!

Thanks, Daniel! We appreciate the kind words 😊

Sweet apricot, balanced, fruity

This is another masterfully roast decaf of a very fine bean. I enjoyed it as much as their 94 point decaf. Frequent’s notes are dark cherry, dark chocolate, and red wine. Those notes might be there if you’ve got a different grind and brew ratio. I accidentally ground mine for espresso and gently squeezed out the filter paper to save the cup, and it turned out yummy. What stands out is how smooth, balanced, and delicious this is.

Thanks for your thorough review, Gary! Appreciate the feedback 😎
